Research and Planning: Sinead O'Connor- Nothing Compares to you

Sinead O’Connor- Nothing Compares to You.

This video is unique in the way that it portrays the artist herself, as for the majority of the video the main focus is on her face, with the use of a close up. This in itself can present challenges in terms of synchronizing the artist miming and the music. The video allows the audience to truly show the emotion within the artists face and how she is truly heartbroken after the split between her and her lover.

The video also cuts to montages of quite gothic statues and buildings in between the shots of the artists face this leads the audience to see the rather dark and depressing side that her life has taken after the break-up of her and her partner.

Yet it always throughout the video for the audience to see that the singer truly feels her songs which in many modern videos is lost, many mainstream artists are publicized in ways that gain them the more public attention and are major exhibitionists who use sex appeal and club settings in order to create their image. However this video shows that that is not always true and that the artist genuinely knows what it’s like to become broken in two by a relationship, this is something that nearly everyone can relate two and she is simplistic in her message and the videos narrative.

Throughout the video she is dressed in a long black coat this connotes morning and depression her make-up also connotes this as it is not filled with positive bright colours but negative colours that make the situation similar to as if the loved one had died and that she is struggling to deal with this.

The video is proof that a music video does not have to be filled with fast cuts and a large variety of shots but that sometimes having a few shot varieties can be equally as powerful.
